For this project regarding the body, I decided to examine the relationship between makeup that women use -- something embedded in our culture that we use with almost no thought -- and the ingredients that are actually in it. I think it is really interesting that women everyday use things that are potentially harmful in order to make ourselves more attractive. The idea behind this came from an article I read about the toxicity of makeup, and while it has made me more aware of how harmful these things are, I think the most interesting aspect is my reluctance to stop using these products, playing into the whole cultural significance of these products.

For Beautiful Biohazard, I wanted to expand on the cultural aspects of beauty, and the extreme measures we go to to achieve "beauty." Although not as drastic as plastic surgery, most people do not realize how harmful makeup and other cosmetics are to the human body.
